How long do dried flowers keep?

Enjoying dried flowers for a long time? How long do they actually keep? Read it here!

Dry flowers are really beautiful flowers for your home, and they are also extremely sustainable! A dried flower bouquet lasts a lot longer than a 'normal' bouquet. Which makes sense, because the flowers are dried. But eventually, like all flowers, the colours of the flowers will fade. Have no fear! You can enjoy your bouquet for a long time. How long a bunch or bouquet can be kept depends on a number of things. Namely: light, space, type and treatment. But we will tell you all about that in this blog.

Tip: Don't know what dried flowers are yet? Then read the blog: What are dried flowers?

Light

Dried flowers are dried flowers, light is therefore a crucial element for the shelf life of dried flowers. If you put the bunch in a very bright and sunny place, the bunch will last for six months to one year. Compared to a fresh bunch of flowers, this is a long time, but you can stretch the shelf life of dried flowers even more. Light causes the flowers to discolour. As a result, they become duller in colour or lose colour altogether, which then results in failure of the flowers. This can be prevented by placing the dried flower bouquet in a spot with a lot of shade. Put the bouquet in a place with little light, not in front of a window. This way, you can enjoy your bunch of dried flowers for longer.

Space

By space, I mean the place where you put the flowers. Dry flowers don't like moisture and prefer to be dry. That is why it is advisable not to put dried flowers in the bathroom, or for instance near the dryer or washing machine. In the drying room or bathroom, a lot of vapour and moisture is released, which damages the plants.

Types

You have many different kinds of dried flowers, leaves and branches that you can dry. Species like wheat or grain, for example, stay nice much longer than other types. Dried flowers, tasks and leaves can stay good (beautiful) for between 1 to 3 years. This then also depends on conditions (such as light and space). So it can also happen that some of the flowers in a bouquet fall out sooner than the rest. This has its advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage is that the flowers fall out earlier. An advantage is that you can also style new bouquets yourself, for instance by buying new dried flowers to complete the bouquet.

Treating dried flowers

Last but not least, handling is also very important. By this I mean how you handle the flowers. This is because dried flowers are even more fragile than normal flowers. This is because the flowers are dried and therefore a lot easier to break. So don't sit much on your bouquet or bunch, leave your beautiful dried flower bouquet in place. It is best to gently blow the dust off the flowers or gently brush them away with a swiffer or small feather duster.

If you carefully remember and follow the following tips and facts, your dried flowers will survive in your home for quite some time. That way, you will enjoy a beautiful, coloured bouquet with the most impressive varieties of flowers for a long time to come... that saves money again, right? Would you like to buy dried flowers?
