Dry flowers in the last century

The small bouquets used to decorate portrait frames and jewellery was the beginning of the dried flower. A few years on, so-called Makart bouquets were launched into the world by an Austrian painter called Hans makart. The dried flower bouquets launched by Hans were stiff, unnatural dried flower bouquets. These bouquets were mainly used in, for that time, dark and gloomy interiors. This proved very popular at the time.

First dried flowers in the Netherlands

Around 1925, dried flowers gained fame in the Netherlands. It appears that initially they were used to make Biedermeier bouquets. Here, small, specially grown flowers would generally be used. These were processed in an airy way to form a spherical bouquet.

Dry flowers from 1970

From 1970, more and more types of dried bouquets were introduced. In fact, it appears that in 1950 there was even a small craze for the dried flower. At this time, copper jugs and delft blue pots were filled with, for example: plumes and dried corn. These were then often found in the hall or corridor. It gradually evolved into small pots and vases that were filled to be placed around the house. Dry bouquets became a real craze from 1970 to 1990 and dried flowers were really everywhere. So at the end of the 1990s, they got a little fall.

But these days, dried flowers and dried bouquets are all the way back. You see people going for the familiar bouquets again in droves and that is understandable, because say it yourself who doesn't want such beautiful flowers in their home.
